On the Cusp of Success
Over the years, I've noticed that people tend to define success differently, yet there seems to be some universally common themes. Usually success is talked about as achieving something that has been longed for over time. It can be something you had no idea how to achieve, or the miracle moment when all the pieces fit just as you imagined. Money is usually married to success in some way. But you've heard about lottery winners or celebrities with vast amounts of money who within a very short time, found themselves deeply in debt or even bankrupt. I wondered how this could happen until I discovered that, like so many people, they overlooked the process of success on their continuing Journey to Wealth & Wisdom.
What is missing is understanding that success is a process that involves becoming aware (conscious) of subconscious fears of success. The subconscious mind stores past information, sometimes called tapes or records. Achieving sustained success is much more complex than most people realize because these beliefs are hidden deep within the subconscious mind. Sustained success involves exposing these hidden internal beliefs about life, success, the way the world works and, most importantly, how you view yourself.
An unconscious fear of success can show itself in many unexpected ways. It may be that just when you are on the cusp of success (e.g. closing the big deal etc) that something unexpected happens. Fear, disappointment, or even frustration rears its ugly head, feeding your negative self-talk. These emotions are an outward expression of unconsciously held beliefs about success and what it means to you. Someone might have said or suggested, "You'll never amount to anything" or "Who do you think you are anyway?" Even without such a negative personal imprint, it is easy to draw your own conclusions about yourself if you constantly compare yourself to other people's successes. You may have even decided (without knowing it) that you just don't have the required luck or that you will blow it like you did last time.
If money has been a historically familiar concern, then money worries have become an ingrained part of your unconscious self-image. While you are consciously saying, "Yes, I am so excited, I can't wait for success," there is unconscious internal dialog saying "Wait a minute, I won't know who I am without my worries." You can tell if you have this internal patterning if you hesitate, feel overwhelmed or make excuses over and over again just when you are on the cusp of success and once again are back into familiar worry territory. The process of overcoming this subtle, yet destructive pattern is easier when you prepare yourself internally by becoming aware of your unconscious negative beliefs. Making new agreements with yourself, such as found in my Seven Agreements for Financial Success allows negative beliefs to surface. Once consciously aware, all that is required is to make a new choice about success and what it means to you.
Look into your heart and soul and ask yourself if you are ready to give up, for all time, the negative self-image you've had about yourself for so many years. Are you ready to go over-the edge of sustained success and live your life as a vision to be realized rather than a problem to be solved?
